If you finish decorating your tree, head to the Culver’s in Scottsdale and decorate a tree for Boys and Girls Club.
The time is growing to a close to make your holiday donations for this year.
If you live in DC Ranch or Silverleaf and want to make a special donation this holiday season, the Foothills Food Bank is offering help to many families. Families who live in Desert Hills, New River, North Scottsdale, North Phoenix, Carefree and Cave Creek are all seeking donations and desperately need help in overcoming financial difficulties.
Thanks to the generosity of those at the DC Ranch Food Circle, they have donated over one-thousand pounds of non-perishable goods to Foothills Food Bank. However, the Foothills Foodbank is currently accepting monetary donations to help local families in a larger capacity throughout the holiday season.
Remember, the tax year is up in a matter of weeks and if you make an online donation, it’s tax-deductible. Donation forms are also available at Desert Camp and The Homestead Community Centers. Please mail the forms with a check to:

Whitestone REIT, a fully integrated real estate company that owns, operates and re-develops Community Centered Properties (TM), announced today that it has purchased Market Street at DC Ranch for $37.4 million, or $156 per square foot.
Market Street is a 241,280-square-foot, mixed-use neighborhood center which sits at the doorstep of DC Ranch, a signature, master planned community. The center is anchored by a Safeway grocery store and is home to local and national restaurants and a mix of local businesses including Wells Fargo Bank, Fleming’s Steak House, Grimaldi’s Pizza, MidFirst Bank, McCormick & Co., and Edward Jones.
The addition of Market Street to Whitestone’s Arizona portfolio marks its 21st acquisition in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
James C. Mastandrea, Whitestone’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are pleased to add Market Street to our portfolio of class ‘A’ Community Centered Properties(TM) in the Phoenix area, and proud to follow in the footsteps of DMB towards the completion and lease-up of the property. Our business model provides an opportunity for our tenants to successfully and profitably build their businesses by meeting the needs of residents in the surrounding communities, which in turn adds value to the property.”
Michael Burke, Vice President of DMB Commercial said, “Market Street will continue to flourish under Whitestone’s ownership. This transaction is a powerful opportunity for us to sell a successful property to a company with specific expertise in expanding similarly situated neighborhood centers.”

It’s Cyber Monday DC Ranch!
#1. E-mail scams – E-mail is still the tool of choice for scammers because it’s so effective at capturing victims, so your best bet is to be extra suspicious of any e-mail that’s promoting holiday specials, even if it’s from a company that you are familiar with. They will use your desire for a great deal against you by creating salacious offers that stress that you have to act quickly, especially if it’s a hard to find item.”
Clicking on a link or opening a special deal attachment can lead to everything from fake e-commerce sites to snaring you with the new CryptoLocker ransom-ware threat.
Be especially careful opening attachments that claim to be from UPS or FedEx for something that you already purchased as this is how most victims of the CryptoLocker ransom virus are being tricked (the shipping companies will never send you an attachment).
A quick way to sniff out fake links is to use ‘the hover trick’ to see if the displayed link matches the actual link: http://goo.gl/LMSo41 (our YouTube video that shows you how to use the hover trick)
#2. Fake shopping websites and rigged search results with amazing deals
Once again, the scammers know that greed can blind you and cause you to let your guard down, so they create very convincing holiday deal websites with incredible deals. In some cases, they can be clever enough to get listed in Google searches, which most people assume are always safe.
Website reputation tools such as Trend Micro’s Smart Protection Network which is built into their antivirus program can warn you in real-time or their Site Safety Center allows you to copy and paste any web address in for a quick check of its reputation.
You can also install a web add-on from Web Of Trust that will alert you in real-time to a site’s reputation in search results via their traffic light warning system.
#3. Scams posted on Social Media Networks
Scammers generally use compromised social accounts to spread scams via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. because they know you are more likely to fall for the scam if it looks like it came from one of your friends.
The Web Of Trust tool will also display a colored circle next to links in social media to help alert you of a potential scam link.
#4. Targeted mobile scams – For some reason, most users of smartphones and tablets don’t think of their mobile computers the same way that they think of their desktop computers and the scammers know that.
You can be tricked with a clever e-mail, text message or social media link on your mobile device just as well and even contract malware (especially Android devices) from clicking on malicious links.
Trend Micro has a free mobile security app for Android users and iOS (Apple) users to alert you to suspicious sites.
We want our residents in DC Ranch, Silverleaf and and everywhere to be safe this Thanksgiving.
There’s an app for everything these days. The Red Cross has created an app designated to Thanksgiving Safety. Trudy Thompson Rice with the Red Cross says the First-Aid app is vital to having a safe and relatively pain-free Thanksgiving.
Rice says the “app has everything from how to treat a blister, to a burn, to a cut or how to administer CPR.” Rice adds, the app even tells you when it’s time to call 9-1-1.
Rice says the app is something everyone should have and provides all the information in written form and video instruction. Plus, it’s bilingual. Not only will the app help in a pinch, it offers preventive information as well.

Thanksgiving + Hanukkah = Thanksgivukkah!!
On Nov. 28, 2013, an extremely rare occurrence will take place that has DC Ranch and Silverleaf abuzz with festive excitement and anticipation.
This year for the first time since 1888, Thanksgiving will coincide with the first day of Hanukkah.
Participants better enjoy it while it lasts however. This unique holiday won’t come back around for another 77,000 years!
Some have proclaimed Thanksgivukkah to be “The Best Holiday of All Time.” So it would stand to reason why so many are jumping into the holiday fervor with such enthusiasm.
The Country Club at DC Ranch is no exception. This year, their kitchen will be offering a Thanksgivukkah Buffet complete with Thanksgiving and Hanukkah inspired dishes that are as delightful as they are creative.
The menu includes:
- Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
- Brussel Sprout Salad
- Smoked Salmon Platter
- Potato Latkes
- Noodle Kugel
- Red Wine Braised Brisket with Root Vegetables
- Barbecued Salmon
- Carved Roasted Turkey
- and more!
The Country Club anticipates a high influx of demand, so reservations are required. They are offering a To-Go Thanksgivukkah menu as well.
Why all the hoopla?
Hanukkah is traditionally viewed simply as the Jewish equivalent of Christmas, which it would seem, makes the very idea of Thanksgivukkah somewhat awkward. However, considering Hanukkah is the celebration of freedom from religious persecution, some say the underlying themes of Hanukkah are more in line with those of Thanksgiving.
So this year’s conflation of the two has some proclaiming Thanksgivukkah to be the “best holiday of all time!”
1-4pm, November 28
$50/adult, $25/children 6-12
“An extremely rare convergence this year of Thanksgiving and the start of Hanukkah has created a frenzy of Talmudic proportions. Here’s the number-crunching: The last time it happened was 1888, or at least the last time since Thanksgiving was declared a federal holiday by President Lincoln. The next time may have the Jewish community lighting their candles from spaceships 79,043 years from now, by one calculation.”
One look at their November calendar and it would seem the event planners at The Country Club at DC Ranch have been working overtime!
Though they are known for their expertly designed and maintained golf course, the beautiful greens are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to DC Ranch entertainment.
There’s theater, tennis, artistry, wine, mouthwatering cuisine and more. They’ve even devoted an entire weekend to charity and health through their DC Ranch Rally for the Cure event.
No matter who you are you’re sure to find something to suit your fancy or pique your curiosity.
Take a look at the itinerary and join in the festivities!
