If you’re new to the Valley there’s always lots of fun things going on. It’s not all just happening in DC Ranch or Grayhawk, althought there’s always a ton of family friendly events going on. There is fun family stuff going on all over the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Splash Mob 5K Fun Run & Walk is just one of them!
Super-soakers are locked and loaded, ready to fire for the 2nd annual run and walk “Splash Mob 5k Fun Run & Walk. It’s happening July 21st at Tempe Kiwanis Park. Nearly one-thousand brave souls are kicking up their heels and turning their backs on air-conditioning this weekend and partaking in the “Splash Mob” to benefit Children First Academy. The unique academy operates two schools which specialize in the welfare of homeless children and underprivileged. The fun begins when mobs of children, several from the academy, super-soak the runners with water guns and water balloons.
Tempe’s Kiwanis Park hosts the race and offers five splash zones throughout the course. Children are a huge part of this race. Children are encouraged to join in on the water-logging fun by either volunteering as a “splasher,” or help work the water zones. This year, the park has set up a brand new water feature called Neptune’s Gate where only children are at the controls.
The course is clearly mapped out for runners and along the way, they’ll run into giddy children delivering a drenching blow with super-soakers showering their face. Throughout the course, kiddie pools are continuously filled with sparkling water for children to always reload their water gun.
Children First Academy raised about five-thousand dollars last year. This year, the academy is hopeful to reach a goal of 18-thhousand dollars.
Admission cost is a 35-dollars registration fee for those over 12 years old. Plus, all those participating are being asked to bring at least two items of school supplies or clothing for for donation. Splashers under 12-years-old are free.
